I walked home from school myself aged 5. The best part of a mile.
My children all walked to and from school themselves or with older siblings from age 5 after being shown the route for a month or two.
If these parents are satisfied the route is safe to cycle then I don't see the problem.

No one believes more firmly than Comrade Napoleon that all animals are equal. He would be only too happy to let you make your decisions for yourselves. But sometimes you might make the wrong decisions, comrades, and then where should we be?
Re: daft
I intend my 3yr old child will cycle to school by age 8, i'm not sure he'd be allowed to take his 3yr old younger brother, but i suspect we might be looking at following at a distance. This is on a school run where half the village is walking their kids to school and everyone knows each other. the only dangerous spot is right by the school, where the 4x4s pull up onto the pavement. One hit my sons pram one day! I imagine given the location this is a similar scenario.
Reading what the parents say, i admire and fully endorse their sensible parenting. British kids are:
-The most unhappy in europe
-Have the highest suicide rate
-The fastest in europe.
-The worst behaved in teenage years
-They have far lower degrees of freedom than our european cousins and go wild when given some freedom.
-They also are more likely to be involved in a road accident and crucially, those who are driven to school are more likely still!
I cycle so that i look after my heart, so i can continue to be a good parent. I teach my children life skills and independence so that they can avoid the risks above. Given these facts in my opinion the school should be reporting parents who drive their kids to school to social services!

The thoughts of BoJo ....
"They have taken the sword of common sense to the great bloated encephalopathic sacred cow of elf and safety. And for this effrontery they are, of course, being persecuted by the authorities. "
Which made me wonder who is the head honcho in London in charge of the authorities bringing about all this persecution.

Not BoJo if it's Education and Social Services that you had in mind.
