I am trying to find an affordable (second hand?) satnav to fit on my bike for touring. Currently using my Garmin Quest with a bike fitting, which isn't ideal (no way to power the thing so runs on batteries ... also quite bulky.
Can anyone recommend something that is smaller, can take maps of mapping programmes (which?) and maybe reasonably cheap to pick up on ebay (don't want to spend £300+ ...
thanks
Martin

Re: sat nav for bike
Road Angel Navigator 7000 takes Memory Maps. Attach the car bracket to your stem with cable ties. You need to dim it and restrict its 'on' time to preserve battery life. It will leave you in no doubt where you are. Available S/H from about £100

A lot of Audaxers use a Garmin Etrex Vista or Legend Hcx, which can be had for around £130. They won't do autorouting, but you can plan a route using mapping sites like bikehike, bikely or bikeroutetoaster and then follow it using the Sat nav , and you can see where you've been. They use AA batteries which alst about 8-10 hours or you could use rechargeables.

They will if you have suitable maps loaded (City Navigator, OpenStreetmap).
They don't do voice prompts, just beeps and short instructions at the top of the screen.
The automatic routing isn't all that good for bikes, so generally you have to put in a reasonable number of intermediate points to keep the route off main roads. If you say you are on a bike, it will put in big detours to keep off even short bits of main road, so I generally tell it I'm in a car and add intermediate points as required.
These problems are likely to apply to any Garmin satnav using the same maps.
The Legend/Vista HCx will last for about 20h off decent AA rechargeables, longer off disposable lithium AAs. (Generally alkaline batteries don't do well in modern electronic gear).
Re: sat nav for bike
The Legend HCx will navigate from village to village or around town, factor in the cost of microSD cards with maps. I use Topo and City Navigator cards depending where I'm going. By adding a few waypoints you can get a decent route. There is a limit of 50 waypoints for a route above that it will let you upload the route but won't navigate it so you may need to split longer routes in separate sections.
