Makes a change...

Post by twhincup »

.....for the cyclist to get it all wrong!

There I am at the end of my ride home from work (about 16 miles in). I get in to a small stage of tussle with a car or two over space, the road then bears left. The opposite direction is clear and the traffic my way stops. I decide to pull out and round - quite safely. Get to the end 't' junction, 1 car turning right, 1 car turning left so i go in the middle but I'm going too fast and almost end up in the next road and a car is coming from my right

So i swing left sharply (across the path of the car turning left :( ) and the approching car comments on my outstanding manouvre with a "u ffing idiot" and quite rightly so and i say nothing in response knowing i'm in the wrong, try to give an apologetic wave but the lose control of the steed. #

Now you many of you know that feeling of "it is definately going to crash but i'll try and save it any way" moment, but i managed to keep that up for about the longest 5 seconds in the world before ending up in a heap  All this with an audience of about 20 cars 8)

No broken bones but the handlebars had twisted round, which i had to sort out before i could carry on ( with said audience :D )

God damn my knee is sore but hey ho, my fault, what a wally - 1 up for the motorist

The person who never made a mistake never made anything  As long as you dont try and repeat it! At least thankfully you appear to have walked away from it reasonably unscathed. And10/10 for having the bottle to hold your hands up and say "My fault"

Percussive maintainance, if it don't fit, hit it with the hammer.

Great story, and thank you for sharing your embarrassment with us!

I remember some years back whizzing along in the traffic, and I went past a couple of mates walking along. I waved and said "Hi", but they were laughing their socks off at me.

They were laughing because they saw the car in front of me had done a sudden stop, and I was still whizzing along not looking where I was going! I saw nothing except the rear bumper and me hitting the rear window!

No damage to either the car or my bike (thankfully), but I was rather shaken and VERY embarrassed!
