Jeff Tollerman has asked myself and others to forward the attached petition with a view to overturning the decision, to convert the CTC to a charity, taken at the AGM.
Although Motion 8, to convert CTC to a charity, was controversially forced through at the AGM, there is provision within the M&A to challenge any motion by petitioning for a postal vote of all the membership to be carried out. The attached form has been developed by members wishing to challenge the decision on grounds outlined in the form.
As you will appreciate I have great sympathy for this as, until the chairman cast his discretionary votes, the motion had been defeated 1,719 to 1,797. Normal protocol would have the chairman voting with the majority, however on this occasion the chair decided to vote against the majority and so changed the outcome. Thus it was that the chair of the CTC, David Robinson, and not the membership, who determined the outcome of the vote.
On these grounds alone I would support this petition.
The petition has to be lodged by 15th August, and Jeff would need to be in possession of all the forms by a week earlier. If you wish to register your support for this petition, please sign it, along with any members you know who feel the same, and send to:
Jeff Tollerman,
21 Vernon Walk,
Tadworth, Surrey KT20 5QP
by no later than 7 August 2010
I would note that there is a requirement for a minimum of 200 signatures on the petition.
