Raleigh Raincheck brake pads (SCREAAAAAAMMMMM !!!!!)

I remember those lights... used to have a pair a few (ahem!) years ago.

Don't remember Raincheck brakes though... were they any good or did they "take a raincheck" when it actually started raining?

They were those awful leather faced things for steel rims, didn't stop much and screamed like a stuck pig.

Capes and maybe sou'westers.

I remember having about three of those mileometers with a pin in the spokes and a star shaped disc on the unit itself. Eventually all flew off on fast downhills, in the end I gave up!

I still use cycle clips - how else am I supposed to keep my trousers out of the chain?
My first set of bike lights were enormous plastic things with big batteries.
Of course it's a race...

Computers? Aren't you a little too young for this thread?

What happened to tub cement that allowed you to peel a tub off and fit another in a matter of seconds ? The modern stuff is certainly sticky but I have found that getting a tub off is extremely hard.
And what happened to that lovely brown Jantex adhesive rim tape? Getting the paper tape off the new stuff without tearing it is a real problem.

I'm 38 lol. Middle aged according to the BBC, it's 20 years since I worked in a bike shop and lots of things have changed hugely since then.

You're right there. Ya can't even buy tartan saddle covers anymore :(

Saddle covers that you can actually ride on rather than just rain covers are hard to come by these days it seems, I used to use tight fitting stretchy saddle covers that I bought from Kitching's, I don't rememver the brand but they had world champion striped elastic underneath. I used to put one on all my saddles by default as a lot were lycra or thin vinyl covered and having additional protection just made them last longer.

Nobody mentioned bottleholders on your handlebars? Why don't they do them anymore? You could stick a straw in them and drink while you rode. Long distance guys had the twin version. I filled mine with Jusoda once and the cork tops blew off a mile down the road.

I once rode to Malton YHA in cold weather (Christmas 1958) and both my h/bar mounted bottles froze solid. It's things like that which mean Yorkshiremen are always referred to as 'dour'.

Extra thick foam handlebar covers (you'd call 'em grips now) that came in four pieces that had to be slid on by taking the brakes off (Weinmann natch) and then securing with electricians tape. The thickness made suicide levers marginally less effective than they were already.
