...then find a Sportive/Manchester 100 and ride in the opp direction.
I have never been ignored by so many cyclists!!!!

Re: Want to be ignored by lots of cyclists....
I've never figured out the best way to be a cheerful to a large strung out group of cyclists riding in the other direction. Do you ride along giving a continual stream of "hello, hello, hello, hello, hello, hello, morning, hello, morning, morning, hello" quick break to take a breath (waving and nodding head) 'hello, hello, hello, hello, morn..oh is afternoon haha, hello, afternoon....." or do you just ride along with an exaggerated smile with an occasional nod or "Hi!"?
Re: Want to be ignored by lots of cyclists....
Having witnessed the the same event whilst riding the opposite way,I nodded and good morninged my way through the first twenty or so then gave up,after which I made a point of looking at their faces, frankly, I've got to say I haven't seen as many miserable cyclists in one place at the same time,if thats sportive riding they can have it!

Or as the Will's Wheels Lads at Wheelock said ' Why pay to ride the lanes we ride every day/week'

Re: Want to be ignored by lots of cyclists....
I see quite a few cyclists in the morning when I'm on my way into work and I allways give a nod or a wave, some I see on a regular basis and we now shout over "Morning" and a wave. I will even somtimes acknowledge pedestrians, If I'm bowling along and I see someone looking I'll give them a hello or good morning etc, Why not ? I remember last year Heading for fort Wiliam and I was passing the Tarbet Hotel there was a gentleman stood outside leaning on a sign having a smoke, as I passed I called over "Good morning" he promptly stood up nodded his head and said "And good morning to you too" how pleasnt I thought
.
But, then you get those who must have a dreary life, they wont acknowledge, never smile, they must be so sad. Lets be happy we only get one go at this short life of ours
. While I think of the subject, I used to do a lot of hill walking and you would never pass another walker without saying "Hello".

Percussive maintainance, if it don't fit, hit it with the hammer.
Re: Want to be ignored by lots of cyclists....
It is not just cyclists.Walkers are just as bad.I do a fairly regular run round a forest track which has walker/bird watchers as well as cyclists. The reactions are quite funny really. Some respond in a normal fashion, some look abashed and mumble a reply, some turn their backs and look into the distance until you are safely past, some give you a silent icy glare and others are frankly terrified(it spoke to me!is it safe, should I run for it ,WHAT WILL I DO?).There is a PhD in this for some enterprising student.

Has anyone ever been propositioned when out cycling by an exceptionally friendly person?

The "grumpy roadies" thread is nearly as popular as the h*lm*t thread.
If they were in a chain gang, they were probably concentrating quite hard... and working quite hard.
If there had been a large bunch of people walking the other way, would you have expected them to acknowledge you?

Of course it's a race...

No but I live in hope.
I can usually solicit a wave, nod, wink or smile from most cyclists (especially roadies as opposed to pootlers) when I'm on my bike, noticeably more so when I'm riding Bob and in full kit. The only ones who tend not to are women off to the shops with what looks like the weight of the world on their shoulders and kids on bmxs

There is this sportive in Mid Wales on Sunday and they will all give you a cheery wave and a warm welcome in the hillsides. It is a very scenic and challenging route and a nice area to visit and spend a few days. http://www.clivepowell-mtb.co.uk/transc ... detail.php

Perhaps a lot of people who think of themselves as shy loners and not very good social sorts find there freedom away off the beaten track in the forests and hills where they may keep themselves to themselves, either that or they could be Alien invaders can Ihave my free Phd now thankyou

Sportives are probably the worst thing to happen to cycling in the last 10 years!
All this 'are you up for the personal challenge ... ?' crap encourages younger riders with blossoming talent to be Greta Garbos rather than participate in the club runs, reliability rides or licenced road races that could turn them into proper racing cyclists.
I can see that in a few years time, the whole country will be flooded with introverted riders, all at least 25 metres apart on multi-thousand pound bikes and the mandatory snarling shades but without any ability of riding in a group and never having the confidence to take out a racing licence to do something wild and extrovert .... like challenge other riders!

Old enough to know better but too young to care.
