Brake adjuster

Post by Si »

On page 56 of the current (Feb/Mar) CYCLE magazine is a picture of a bike with drop bars and V brakes. It appears to have an inline brake adjuster just above the noodle. Does anyone know where I can get some of these for a reasonable price?

Also, as an aside - in that picture (which looks a bit like an On-One with drop bars fitted) what's going on with the cable ties around the fork crown?

I guess that's Editor Dan Joyce's On-One fixed-wheel bike. I'll draw his attention to your question.

The adjuster is integral with the "noodle" and will have come with the DiaTech 287-V brake levers also on this bike. Those levers are imported by http://www.ison-distribution.com/. And under "Brake - Parts Cantilever/V-Brake spares" their website lists various DiaTech brake noodles, plus some other handy "Problem Solvers", but you'll have to contact them to see if this adjuster-noodle is included.

There is also an adjustable brake noodle amongt the comprehensive range of cable adjuster manufactured by Jagwire. See http://www.jagwireusa.com/. Jagwire's UK importer is http://www.moorelarge.co.uk/. Of course these are just the sort of thing you would expect to find at your friendly local cycle dealer. It's the reason you buy things there rather than mail-order, isn't it? :?

I think the zip-ties are probably holding a mudguard on (since On-One don't drill the fork crown), but you'll have to wait to hear from Dan about that.

unfortunatly a trawl around the LBSs produced nothing, as you say, I'd much rather use them...but if they don't sell it I can't buy it :(

As expected. I'm sorry that the "confused" smiley seems to be the closest we have to "tongue-in-cheek"!

Chris is right. It's my singlespeed hack bike with DiaCompe 287V brake levers and a mudguard zip-tied to the fork crown - less hassle than replacing the fork or attempting to drill it.
