The bell that came with my bike is not sounding it's best lately
I have done a search in this forum and not come up with the answer to....
What's the best bell?
or even ....
what is the best warning system on a bike after shouting out, 'Watch your back, Buster!!'

Many would say that the best bell is this one:

I'd say this one:

Best for what? Depends on your priorities, IMO. Pingers can be very light, and annoying to use (Cateye used to do a nice one). The rotating action type tend to be heavier, but more melodious....

This revolving bell is my favourite, you can give a single ping or a longer sequence as required.
It works right or left handed.

Some of the inexpensive bells out there I admit that while their appearance is not that great, they function as well as some of the expensive bells out there
http://www.mountainbike.co.uk/Cateye-Bike-Bell.html . If one wants attention on the road, though I have a pinger (single ping on a spring) bell, I think the long rings are desirable but a pinger works in a minimal way.
As said, it depends on use. Dogs ears perk up when with a long ringer I have, I almost wonder if it might disarm a hostile one.

Well, I don't want one that makes the toast...
Thanks folks - I'll get the kids to splash out for a rotary one when my b/day comes around

Excellent! I've been looking for one of these since using one on a Boris Bike. Much easier to use than a pinger.

recently weve had two of those, from two different stores (newport /york) several
months apart and both have failed in the same way
The pinger comes off the spring after about a month of my kids using them which isnt that much
actually.
caveat emptor!
