Though it came at a cost, I am glad I purchased such a crank remover, no more squirming about taking it to the shop to ever get it done, I had a problem with a crank and all it needed was for the bearings to be repacked. 10 minute job but impossible before or at least a bit troublesome before in planning. Paying the shop to remove the crank, sorry to say was probably at least about 1/3rd of what Crank Puller cost and I'll be able to use the crank puller over and over. It's one of those costs at first I wasn't sure about but once I got it, I'm glad I did and I did indeed need it for a fix immediately or I would not have gotten it.

It's a hard Tool to find, face it, that's why it is like that and some of us need one. It's a judgement call as to whether you want to shell that kind of money out but I agree, £30 is about the norm, market price.

http://www.sheldonbrown.com/harris/french.html Sells JA Stein crank pullers under Tools.

I think people are making their own a bit like this JA Stein and selling them around.

Crank Dust Caps are another item that can sell for a lot too. So it goes. Also, those drop out screws... you'd be surprised.

If Colin's doesn't work out, I'm pretty sure I've got one you can borrow (not for sale), and, as you know, I'm just up the road.

Worth having one though if you can get it.

Thanks, Colin has sorted me out with one (pray to the postie gods!) I know I should have hung onto one of the two I had but only ever used the old TA chainset the once. I learn by my mistakes (most of the time) :D
