I've found plenty of old style bar plugs at cycle jumbles and as new old stock in cycle shops eg Hewitt
They're usually really cheap - £1 to £2.Lots of nice colours too..

If / when another falls out, I'll try the Duct tape on the inside of the handlebar and then work up to the more expensive ideas.

I'll also keep hold of any wine bottle corks/plugs that come my way.
