All is well in the Nutseyverse once more.

My knee is healed (enough), and my rear tyre is shiny and new. I can now get to work with certainty of 24 minutes door to door once again.

(Oh and my XEL investment hit 300% profit today  )

What you need to do is to "boot" ie re-inforce, the inside of the tyre. Park sell really tough translucent patches for this job, but you dont actually need anything sticky if your boot is big enough and stiff enough to hold the tyre pressure. The best thing for the job is a 2 or 3 inch length cut from a tubular tyre and opened out, or a similar length of lightweight tyre. I have "got home" using a bit ripped off the mudflap, or a bit of rag. I'm sure tyres are better quality now than they were!

Cheaper option is to cut up old toothpaste tubes (cleaning them out after cutting). It's a common thing people have and the plastic is pretty tough.
