B&M Lumotec oval Plus standlight not working
Earlier this year I bought a secondhand tourer (c1995) with bottom bracket dynamo and B&M lumotec oval plus front light and B&M Toplight (battery)rear. Only used the dynamo recently and found it produced a rather feeble yellow light and the standlight didn't work at all. I replaced the bulb (marked 5V6W) with the correct 6V3W one. The light is now much brighter but the standlight still doesn't work. Could using the wrong bulb have damaged the capacitor or does anyone have any other ideas what is causing the problem? I can live without a standlight but it would be nice to get it working. I know nothing about electrics so if its complicated I'll forget the idea!

The B&M lights often don't like being earthed through the frame. Are you duplex wired throughout? And; Is the light wired to the generator the right way around? Yes it does matter.

The standlight feature on older headlamps, which combine bulbs with LEDs, are not all that reliable and prone to stop working for no particular reason. Fortunately there's not much need for a light on the front of a bike when it stops moving, but if you really do want one I'd recommend getting a new LED headlamp - they're so much better than bulbs nowadays.

Thanks for that guys. I think I'll just get a wee knog frog to act as a stand light. Probably not necessary but I don't like to give motorists any excuse to say they didn't see me!
