Thanks

If you look at the bottom of the screen you get when posting, there is a bit, just below and to the left of the 'Save' button, marked 'Upoad attchment' click on that and you can either type in the exact path to your picture or if you are like me you click 'Browse' then go to where ever the picture is - in my case in 'My Pictures' on my computer. Click on the picture and then on 'Open'. The exact path from the forum to your picture will then appear at the bottom in a little area labelled 'Filename.' Then click 'Add the file', which is just to the right of browse.
This is where the fun can start if your pic is too big. You have to use one of the various programmes available to reduce the size of the file then go through the above steps with the smaller file.
Having got it to accept your attchment, you can then do other tricky-dickie things like adding a file comment or positioning it more or less exactly where you want. but these are not necessary.
If you want to go wild, you can repeat the process as often as you like.
(There are much better instructions about this already on here from people like gaz.)

Apparently my "attachment" is "invalid" which is a bit worrying even for someone of my age.

Your attachment must be one of a set of file types. The best and most universal is the JPEG.
Perhaps yours is something different.
What is it?

If you don't have any luck loading up the photo directly you can easily load the file onto a photo hosting website like flickr or phtobucket. The photo can be as large as you like and pretty much any file type. Whence you have loaded the photos there you capture the URL which in flickr for instance is unde the 'share' tag, copy the size you want from there then paste it in the body of the message. Highlight it then press Img which is the 4th from the right above the text box. This inserts the photo as computer coding (or HTML as it is referred to as)
If you still have problems loading them check the file type and download one of the many FREE file converter programs on the internet.
