We are planning to cycling from Faro airport to Silves, can anyone suggest a route avoiding the busy roads. Is it doable on road bikes.

Not been up to Silves but ridden past going to Faro and beyond - plenty of well surfaced little roads wending their way around the golf courses

I did this ride from albufeira a couple of years ago and as I recall there's only really one main road to Silves - apart from this its all desert - but don't worry the traffic is light and the roads wide with a wide gutter.

I took my Garmin 705 which can direct you down gravel tracks if your not careful - some peter out into nowhere

Thanks for all your help reagrding cycling from Faro. Our trip to the Algarve went without a hitch, The route away from the airport did in fact take us up through the golf courses, and was pretty easy to find. We followed the perimeter fence West to the end of the runway and imediately turned right onto a track through a gate marked private, it's OK as people walk and cycle along it. This took us to the road leading to Vale de Lobo then up through the golf courses. Great route for anyone going that way. Beware when they showers in Portugal they mean deluge!!
