Told Sunderlnad is the offical end but the trip to Tynemouth is more attractive !
Would appreciate any views.

It's entirely your choice as long as you've done a coast to coast it matters not a jot where you choose to end it.

I'm doing the C2C this year, but finishing at Sunderland. Although, Newcastle upon Tyne is a good route through Rowlands Gill and along the riverside. I would finish at Newcastle, but Sis's boyfriend wants to finish in Sunderland.

Yes many thanks but post seems to have disappeared !
Desided to finish in Sunderland and stay in Roker which looks ok......
Just fancied cycling along the River Tyne.
Finish on Tuesday and catch the train back from Durham on Wednesday
Regards
Mike

I don't think either is the "official" end - I rode it to Sunderland, but having also ridden the bit from about Consett to Tynemouth on another ride I thought that was better - the riverfront and blinking-eye bridge in Newcastle is great - also, I would cross the Tyne on the blinking eye bridge and ride along the south side to the foot/cycle tunnel at Wallsend - simply to try out the cycle tunnel and the rejoin the route to Tynemouth.
... and while you're at it - to ride north along the coast from Tynemouth is superb ...

I think you'll find a sign like that at Tynemouth - when David Grey first designed the route foe Sustrans they offered two finishes, and AFAIK they still appear on the official CTC maps (likewise there are 2 starts on the west side - Whitehaven and Workington ... although the vast majority start at Whitehaven)

Did it last year and finished in Sunderland, stayed o/n in Roker, then rode to Newcastle - great views over sea. A lot to recommend it. Italian restaurant in the marina (on third floor of harbour office!) made a great location for celebration dinner
