What's the best way of planning a route in Southern Thailand (poss from Trang meandering up towards Bangkok)? I haven't bought any maps yet but intend to, some advice as to which to go for would be good. Everything I've read online so far seems to lament the absence of large-scale maps for Thailand.

I'd prefer to stay away from really busy main roads but would still like easy access to accommodation/food etc. Oh...and I don't have a Garmin either! I've got plenty of time, the trip won't be happening until Nov/Dec but I want to start planning early , that's half the fun, isn't it!
