Windsor Great Park

A dozen or so of us were having a very pleasant mid week club run through Windsor Great Park this morning, nice and steady no racing, when we were stopped by a warden and given a lecture that no more then 6 riders could be in a group and that we had to split up.It was "Park rules and people get upset".We could n't quite believe what we were hearing but agreed to proceed as he required. Has anyone come across this before?I wonder how this would be enforced legally ,the first 6 get through and then sue/arrest the remainder.I accept that Windsor Great Park roads are private but please, have n't they anything better to do.The "upset" Ladies in Waiting and Grace and Favour tenants need to chill out a bit and enjoy the scenery if just occasionally they have to slow down a little for a group of cyclists.I wonder if they have the same views about strings of polo ponies.

We use it but never hear trivial crap this. Perhaps a 3-ft gap between riders may constitue a split in group.

****ing ridiculous!

FWIW, one of our riders was stopped around the 2012 Olympic rowing venue, Dorney Lake where it says that cycling is allowed but training isn't. This was Alan Hodgson of the South Bucks CTC, riding alone just one week before his 75th birthday!

Maybe ask to see the park rules, specifically what amounts to split up, I guess 50 yards apart is split up, but is 30, 20, 10? Did he have a tape measure anyway?

Never encountered that in my day (although 4 was all we ever managed).

I've benn told that the SW London CTC Wayfarers were also stopped a couple of years ago. They are nearly all pensioners, to me that's bordering on harassment.
The only cars allowed in the Park are those owned by Park residents, employees or deliveries. The roads that are available to cyclists are wide with ample room to pass a two abreast group.

To be fair the roads (when I used to be there) were easily wide enough for two groups, 3 or 4 abreast to pass.

Rules is rules, also you will be asked to leave if "found cycling at excessive speed", hopefully this rule applies to car drivers too! http://www.theroyallandscape.co.uk/attachments/published/2399/Cyclist%20Leaflet%20Aug21Ver7FINAL.pdf

Generally a decent leaflet, but...

- No cycling after dusk - on a NC route?
- Helmets on the front cover...

The "mum"'s helmet is completely off the back of her head (it took me a while to find it)
The "son"'s helmet is far too high at the font.
The "daughter"'s helmet looks far too large (and therefore non fitting)
The "dad"'s helmet looks well fitted.

I can;t see the brakes clearly but they look OK

Excessive speed? The 38mph sign inside Blacknest Gate is something that I'd love to get near! That's actually marginally faster than the current 4-man 4,000 metre team pursuit world record!

Cycling not permitted on The Long Walk? It doesn't actually say that you're not even allowed to walk and push a bike there!
