Touring shoes-what to buy?

Post by craftycockney »

I want to buy a new pair of touring spd shoes which will be comfortable in summer, wide fitting, and fairly light but with I guess the ability to walk in them. Anyone have any thoughts or recommendations? I have bought a pair of lightweight Altura overshoes/covers so they dont have to be waterproof? Anyone used them? A bit fiddly to put on as dispite being 11-13 (my shoes 10.5) they have to be stretch to get the velcro to engage.

A question I'd like to see answered too. I like Carnac Passy for summer touring but they appear to have been discontinued, so I'm looking for a potential replacement. Winter is a different matter - Northwave Celsius Goretex lined boots, warm, dry & comfortable, even in a flood!

I use a pair of Adidas MTB shoes. For £34.00 I do not think that they can be beaten. Good solid soles, wide and OK to walk up to a mile in. Hope that this helps.

Or would they be too laid back?
