I hadn't realised that earphones would help that much with the wind noise. Maybe I have rubbish headphones, but I can't see how even the best wouldn't cut some outside sounds out..............

They are only slightly better, not enough to make a major difference. They do however make an enormous difference to how quickly your ears freeze off in the cold. :D

I think from the sounds* of it the difference is that I am just using my headphones for background music and if there is much external noise then I can not hear my music any more. If it wasnt rude I could happily talk to people with them on.
I can do this because most of my riding is on fairly quiet roads. I normally ride with the earpieces slightly in front of my ear holes and if I want to listen properly to the music, I inch them back a bit.

*pun intended

Pedestrians with plugged ears walking on cycleways are a total pain.

They never bother me, unless they have a dog as well.

Dogs are the pits.

Pedestrians are fine, you simply have to assume they'll suddenly change direction.
Dogs appear from nowhere and at high speed - and if you're doubly unlucky they'll still be connected to their owners by a long lead... (The yelp of that tiny rat dog will haunt me forever... )

Don't panic - the dog was fine. (Or at least in better shape than your sense of humour)

It was twilight, it's owner was on one side of the path and the dog in some bushes on the other. Both connected by a stupidly long lead hidden by the diminishing light. I slowed down and was watching the owner (and thus near the bushes) when I ran over the lead. There was a surprised yelp from the bushes, I stopped and a very surprised looking dog appeared.
It's owner on the other hand was very unamused and just glowered.

TBH, they should ban those long leads. I'm fed up of having to leap over them whilst out running. If I wanted to do hurdles, I'd go down the track.

In your usual fashion you pre-judge something, and in this case from two words and a rolling eye smilie.

Really?

Lets see if we can play a game of "what did I mean"

1. Very unfunny.

2. Very unfunny.

3. Very unfunny.

Having looked at them several times, I don't find any ambiguity in meaning at all... Are you sure that rolling eyes means what you think?

You can, by all means, carry on playing games.

No need. As I said first time - sense of humour failure.

Oh poor you. So many better games that could be a favourite, I thought your favourite would have been the "dropping little insults at the start of posts to try and antagonise people" game.

Actually no, my favourite is to make my anecdotes slightly amusing* and see how many people I can find that lack both imagination and humour.

*Usual disclaimers (although laughing face was added as an aid).

Not sure your 'new' favourite (as compared to your favourite of just over an hour ago) is any better really. Still I am sure a new 'favourite' will come along in another hour or so.
But really we have both been remiss and strayed away from cycle issues, which is what a cycle forum is about, we should get back to the cut and thrust of cycle matters.
Au revoir, son été amusant
