The issues are with the straddle cable on canti-brakes.
It is probably do-able with them but it meant setting up the brakes yet again with a much different straddle cable angle. So I just left it for later, much later.

Thanks for that stewart. I'm looking at the front first. I'm trying to work out whether the Acor bar will allow the light to project over the bar bag. I had discounted it for this reason but I am happy to have another look. The Topeak (see post above) should do* but I think I originally classed this with the Minoura which people say tends to slip. If anyone has used the Acor over the top of the bag I would be interested to hear.
Just added: you need about 5" vertical reach from the handlebar to the light, though some of this can be found in the light fitting itself. This is deceptive because the bag appears at first sight to be located below the level of the handlebar: in fact, it is not only protruding above it but is at an angle and, if fully packed, protrudes even higher. The Klickfix space bar seems to take the lights but it too is too low. Two other issues also appear: one is that the Acor bar needs handlebar space that is occupied by the Klickfix and the other is that lights over the bag will obstruct access to it. Generally, the best strategy appears to be to go below the bag but I am open to persuasion and I could be wrong on this!
* here it is over the bag but occupying the KlickFix handlebar space. It could be moved along the handlebar.
PS What exactly are tangfastics?

Hm, it's going to depend on what bag you have to be honest. I use mine with a small strap-on bag and it's fine. I have a couple of other, larger bags I could try it with if you're interested (and if I remember to do it)...?

I've used both Minouras (the straight one and the pivoted one). Yes, they're definitely longer than the Acor. I hadn't found them to ever slip. It depends how you mount them I guess - if you set them up horizontally and hang significant weight on them they'll probably move; if you mount them vertically you won't have a problem. My issues with them were that they take up more bar space than the Acor, and - much more of a bother to me - they're incredibly frustrating and fiddly to fit and remove. Not so much of a problem if you want it on all the time.

Yes, it needs some space. There are three factors at play: the width of your stem clamp, the internal and external width of your bag bracket, and the profile of your bars (ie how much flat space you've got to play with - eg one of my bikes has a bar with a long taper to the wider-diameter clamp section, which makes it useless for mounting things). Don't forget that you may well be able to mount a bar extender one or other side of your bag bracket - the Acor being smaller will probably do this better than the Minoura.
You're right, if you can mount below the bar that may work better. There's a recent thread where someone's mounted a lamp on a lowrider boss using a rubber door bumper...
