But is it counted and the veiws of the spoiler taken into account?

Say 2million people turnout and spoil in the knowledge that their vote (none vote :? ) is counted and considered valuable,it says to politrickians that there room for another party,if those votes or a majorty of those votes are in say, three constituences indicating that if an independent candidate were to stand s/he could win the seat,or if there were enough spoils in a constituency that could be built on and fought for with the possiblity of upsetting the big two............
As it is in safe seats, elements of the electorate don't bother in the full knowledge that their vote is useless and counts for nothing.
The key is showing the voting public that their vote is valuable.AV would have done that but laughingly or tragically the public couldn't be bothered to vote :? catch 22 and a sad day for democracy.

FPTP does not serve democracy or the people and the big two parties know, it continues the cosy commons and lords(oxymorons on both counts) old school tie,old boy network, serving the big money men who run the country.

Indeed: for example, in Green Party internal elections you can always vote for 'RON' - took me a (short) while to realise that meant re-open nominations

Vote for Ron!

I'd vote for him, he can be PM too!

The eminently sensible and knowledgeable British public (in contrast to most posters on this thread), have given a clear, sensible and direct message to the Government: stop wasting our time with unnecessary polls when there are more important things you should be sorting out and spending your time on.

Similarly the police should stop hounding motorists and litterers because they've got more important stuff to do too!

I always love it when someone pipes up with that old gem.

That wasn't the question they were asked unfortunately.....
A shortcut has to be a challenge, otherwise it would just be the way. No situation is so dire that panic cannot make it worse.
There are two kinds of people in this world: those can extrapolate from incomplete data.

Such as unecessary and costly (in lives and money) wars.
Instead of democracy.

Edwards - too true. I voted for AV but as a knowledgeable and sensible member of the British public I would have rather not have had the opportunity to vote on this matter.

Reohn 2 - I'm confident that if the knowledgeable and sensible British Public had been offered a poll of whether or not we got involved militarily in Iraq they would have appreciated the opportunity and voted against it.
We should take great comfort in knowing that the average Brit it more intelligent and has greater insight that most posters on this forum IMHO.

I note the smiley, but am still moved to say that I really could not agree less. The attraction of this forum is largely the obvious intelligence of a significant majority of posters. Even Nutsey is clearly very bright, although pathologically wrong.

Just returned from Scotland where we attended a ball and I enjoyed a spot of salmon fishing. But I didn't even get a rise there.

I'd like to think so but at the time I was quite surprsed at some of the people I spoke to who were all for it.Needless to say none of them had sons or daughters in the armed forces.

Oh I'm not so sure, theres a pretty good cross section of people who use this forum, of course there is the odd nutter, and the odd disJointed individual who thinks they're a cut above by generally letting other forum members know of their position, but they're small flies in the large tub of soothing ointment that is the forum as a whole.
Just my unbaised opinion of course :)
