This may come in handy for anyone looking for campsites in Scotland an A-Z list, on some I have been on(although with car and the family) a lot I have seen catering to backpackers and cyclists alike, although have not seen many reviews from cyclists.

Can I put a mention in for Spey Bay Golf Club

Near the Spey viaduct, the golf club charged me £5 for an excellent piece of grass sward, newly installed high quality showers and wash facilities and a friendly welcome. All in all - excellent!

I see Turriff gets a mention above. This is a great site too, but under threat. The council are moving out, but locals want to run it as a community enterprise. I hope it stays open.

Generally good, the owner is charming who talks to you by name, there are good, clean showers, washing facilities and WCs and great views over Alyesbury Vale and Ivinghoe Beacon. However the downside of the good views is that there is no shelter from the wind; I had a sleepless night listening to continual flapping of my flysheet!

Still a good campsite and for £8 per night (for 2 nights or more) good value.

Hope this is of some use. i cycled from Ipswich to Inverness last year following the Sustrans maps (showing the little camping emblem ) & finding a campsite was real problem several of them had closed ( the one just north of Beverley was then for residential caravans only & the owner fairly unpleasant & unsympathetic )dispite CAMPING sign still on the roadside. several of the campsites had NO TENT signs or just wouldnt let tents in,some insurance thing again they said.
And quite a few that i came across were for camping club members only ( i would seriously think about joining if i did something like this again)
AND they wernt cheap in the end i did a mix of Hostel (yha & independent), & camping .
it seemed talking to several of the campsite owners they were veering towards only Residential sites as it made them more money .....a bit dissappointing
having just bought a new tent .
so it might be worth a a close look at the sites when you plan your route to see IF they allow single sex tents ie one person.

IRELAND, DRAPERSTOWN, CO DERRY.

Just came back from a weeks camping and cycling at http://www.shepherdsrestpub.com/ and without doubt it is the best campsite in Ireland I have stayed at.

Located a few miles outside the village of Draperstown in Co Derry in the Sperrins Region.

Campsite has everything a cycletourist could ever wish to have available while on tour,

Hot Showers with unlimited hot water, Toilets with unlimited toilet roll, Fridge for campers use, Free use of Washing machine and tumble dryer, Steam Iron and Ironing Board, Local area Cycling maps located in reception area which has chairs for relaxing,reading or use of your computer.

Genuine authentic built old Irish cottage with a fire grate and a stock of Logs and Turf. Cottage has tables, chairs and sofas and kitchen area for the use of campers. Cottage also has a canopy to the front which is useful on a rainy day to be outside but sheltered from the rain, and of course a pub at the end of the campsite.

Pitches are available with or without Elec at no extra charge

Large garden area for kids which includes a large sandbox and several sets of swings

Campsite caters for Caravans and tents and all pitches are level

Campsite is Located in the Sperrin Mountain range and as such is centrally located in the middle of Ulster so day rides can be taken to North, East and West coasts either taking mountain routes or flatter routes. The views that can be seen around this area are nothing short of spectacular but be warned stopping your bike within walking distance of the local population can seriously delay your trip as they are the most friendliest people you are ever likely to meet and will spend vast amounts of time enlightening you on local history and knowledge. The infamous Celtic Tiger didnt get her claws into the people of this area, thankfully.

This is Ireland as it used to be and should always be and the owners of the site, Colin his Father, Mother, wife and children are what make it special, nothing is overlooked and no matter what your needs they will do their best to fulfill them.

Just back from Knotlow Farm at Flagg in the Peak District, west of Bakewell and handy for both the Tissington and Monsal Trails. Excellent.

£7 per person per night - acres ( and acres) of space - new toilets and really good showers. They seem to allocate fields, (they have five different ones) according to type - ie adults only in one, families in another , Yurts bookable online and electric hook up in a third. The owner said it would be busy at the weekend. Busy obviously has a different meaning in the Peak District. For the walkers amongst you the Limestone Trail passes through the site.

Pizza, breakfast baps and eggs from the farm house.

The down side is I have discovered what the two lowest gears on my Galaxy are for: killer hills for those of us from the "flat lands" but the descending was great .

Chestnut Park at Bexhill is excellent too, the best toilets and showers of any camp site I have been to, but more suited car based families with larger tents due to the pricing structure. Run by the nicest couple you could hope to meet.

spent a few days in kilbroney park in Rostrevor northern Ireland , really beautiful place great facility's 4 star campsite. great walks on the mourn way tough be really worth the effort.it cost £12.50 a pitch so using it as a base could get expensive but its a lovely part of the world.

We go every month year round .... and we travel from Sheffield.

A hearty recommendation here for the Seal Shore campsite at Kildonan, Isle of Arran. Beautiful views, a no excessive noise policy, very good facilities and just seven quid a night. Cyclists are granted the best spots too because our small tents don't interfere with the views . Although it's wholly possible to do the 56 mile lap of Arran in a day it's worth doing the 11 miles from Brodick to Kildonan in order to spend the night, then do the remaining 45 miles the following day. That's what I've just done earlier this week and so should the rest of you!

Nearest proper shop about 2.5 miles away.
You have to hire a chemical toilet and they can provide a toilet tent so you have some privacy while you use it.

Nice site, very quiet, mostly caravans and motorhomes. I was made very welcome, they gave me small portions of instant coffee and sugar. Friendly staff. Open all year round.

A good place to stop if you carrying everything with you on the bike.

It has what it says on the box -free showers, shop, a good size lounge and so on. Look a bit deeper and some of the facilities are a little the worse for wear - probably more 3 star than five. The worst bit for me was how wet the whole site was, even the higher ground was waterlogged! a night, bread to order or take a chance.

A very small site about a fifteen minute walk or two stops on the local train to the town centre. Its right on the sea front and in site of Kronborg castle. Basic facilities, a shower token will set you back KR 5. And that train, it trundles past just a few metres from the tent pitches twice an hour! Bread to order KR110 night

Very pleasant site with excellent facilities. Tents can be near the beach or almost on it, i chose the former! The showers are free but hot water isn't, some of the facilities are essentially hotel wet rooms, the others are more traditional. Bread can be ordered, its cooked fresh on site. A very quiet site with grassy and well drained pitches.

About 2km from the town it's main business like so many others these days is 'jahregaste'. Pleasant location with good facilities but a silly card swipe system that doesn't always let you into the toilet/shower. This was my first 'hut' and unlike the deluxe cabins appearing on many sites a hut is pretty much that - think garden shed and you'll be on the right lines. I wasn't expecting bedding or crockery, there's even a coffe maker and kettle. If this option had been more widely available i would have left the tent at home. at a push hut could sleep 4 but intended for 1/2.

Everything is included, no hidden extras but on the other hand there isnt a shop of any kind. No bread. There are various food emporia within walking distance so its not a huge issue. One handy thing - except the week i visited, are the two bike shops nearby. Fairly level and moisture free pitch not too far from the facilities but far too close to the entertainment zone.

This is the first site that i've ever revisited and i have to say that it hasn't changed since i was last here. Showers will cost you KR 5 a throw, there is a site grill but no shop as there is an excellent supermarket 2 minutes walk away. On a more general note they could do with cutting the grass more regularly.

My second hut site, cheaper by quite a bit and i'd say its a better hut. Its set up more like a caravan inside, small kitchen area and a full size fridge come as part of the package. The site is generally a little tired although pleasantly appointed. KR 2 for a shower isn't too bad except i needed two goes to freshen up. Bread to order, limited site shop but supermarket a short walk away. As a 'hutter' its fine but ground is quite damp after several dry days.

Great location close to the town so no on site shop as such but bread is available to order. There is direct access to the sea if thats what you want. Unusually its the tents who have the best access to the facilities and although not level the pitches are pretty flat. KR 5 for a 3 min shower.

Most expensive shower to date - KR 10 but its a very nice clean site. Level pitches but with a tendency to damp. No shop but there are several in the town a few minutes away. Tents get a good deal on the facilities and the kitchen is well equipped.

Although not fantastically signposted it was easy to find. Showers are KR 5 for just 2.5 mins! Close to shops and the 'beach' and the site has a basic shop too. If you like the sound of the sea this one is for you. bread can be ordered.

Comments: Recommended! Good value at £4 per person. Covered 10' by 10' campers kitchen with lights, 2 ring gas cooker with grill, gas BBQ, single ring gas burner, tables and benches.

Only recently opened it is situated between the A828 and the new section of NCN 78 that is currently under construction. Very clean, good quality facilities. The site is small, it only has pitches for 5 caravans/motor homes. There is a similar sized area for tents that also has 3 gypsy caravans for rent if you don't want to camp.

Comments: Recommended! Good value at £10 for 2 in a medium sized tent. Only open since the beginning of 2011 the site has brand new, very clean toilets and showers attached to a bunkhouse if you don't fancy camping. There is also a small bothy for use as a campers kitchen equipped with a 2 ring electric hob, fridge, microwave and electric kettle. There is a table and 6 chairs, an overhead clothes drying rack and a washing machine and tumble dryer operating on an "honesty box" basis (£3).

Another review (specifically for the London 2012 Olympics).

CampLondon2012 - campsite in London, close to the Olympic stadium. They have wi-fi throughout the site, healthcare, CCTV, live music events, organised sporting events. They are also able to provide tents, if you don't have one. All from as little as £10 per pitch.
