Sora STI "trimming"

Post by fatboy »

I have 8 speed triple Sora STI levers on my 2003 Dawes. In the handbook that came with the bike for these levers it talks about trimming the front mech by doing half clicks on the thumb operated lever but I can't get it to do this (it's not a real issue just I like to understand things). Now I bought the bike in 2006 so I don't know if the instructions really came with the bike or were an afterthought. Did they do versions of these shifters that couldn't be trimmed or is there some special technique that I need to aquire to make it do this?

I've always understood that this trimming facility is only available on the double and not the triple. The last Sora's that I worked on a few days ago didn't have it.

georgew,

Thanks for that. I certainly can't make it do anything and the instructions are vague in the extreme. I reckon if you need to trim then you're in the wrong gear!

I've got sora triple/8 and they won't allow me to trim. However, I got them in well-used condition and so they may just be knackered.

I have triple ring Sora and there's no trim facility on my levers. Have not needed to adjust them in two years of riding.

This is confirming what I have always thought that the instructions were the issue and not the shifters. Thanks for your help on this
