BMI Baby - Bikes - CTC bags OK ?

Post by hoogerbooger »

BMI Baby website says this:

"PLEASE NOTE: bicycles will only be accepted if suitably packaged. The maximum weight of any of these items is 18kgs. All items will officially travel stand-by. bmibaby will not be responsible for repatriation if there is a delay."

Anyone got a bike on in a CTC plastic bag ? ( I looking at Cardiff to Malaga)

I did deal with BMI a couple of years ago and it was OK - we had a big party going LHR to Eastern Europe on 1 flight per day and they had a 3 bike limit notionally on the flight but arranging all to check in together, and use a full luggage trailer sorted the issue.

Bigger problem is that Cardiff (& Malaga) will have ground handling contracted out so only 1 or 2 'real' BMI staff and the G/H contractors can be a major problem at some airports. A recent problem with Liverpool (Servisair) now sorted - Stansted (where I suspect high staff turnover leads to inconsistent service) regularly arises.

If you do want to check go for airport and check who does G/H for BMI - probably just one contractor for all flights and for Cardiff (Rhoose), now with rail link, you'll probably find a friendly and long serving team who are likely to be helpful. I can try my contacts if time permits but if you can check locally & report it would be helpful.

When I flew from Jersey a few years back they simply asked me to carry the bike to the plane with me, and I handed it to the loaders.
