Rattling Ortlieb Ultimate Plus Bar Bag!!

Post by collisiondomain2011 »

Hi Guys and Girls,

I've just fitted Ortlieb Bar bag to my KWT, it's got the Selego bars.

I think its fitted correctly, its sturdy and has no major movement, however on anything but the smoothest tarmac it rattles like mad.

Has anyone else experienced this? I think the rattling is coming from the press studs, having said that the bag was pretty much empty, maybe that's the cause?

Either way my OCD will not tollerate it  , was thinking of tryng to insulate the vibaration with inner tube pieces etc.

Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Anything metal or hard in a bag inside a non inside insulated Bar Bag will rattle like mad. Unless it is really full. It drives me nuts, so I have some cloth in the bottom.

Know what you mean! On mine it was the press studs sockets. They have a loose "ring" inside to capture the stud.

Luckily a friend had some of the studs and I just press them in when not using the Map case (ie. most of the time).

Stick a bit of <anything suitable> in the socket - at least that'll eliminate them as the root cause. I also pack my buff in the bag to smother rattly items.

Wish I thought of that! A wipe of bathroom sealer quietens them down too.

Thanks for the advice, solved the rattling torture with little circles off rubber pressed into the map press studs. I tightened the click and lock mechanism with little rubber inserts as well. Just took it out for a spin and its quiet as a mouse.

I would be really grateful to Clandyfield for identifying details on the Press-studs, so I can order the corresponding bits to quieted the racket, or insert my own reduced-size map pocket.

Ortlieb seem to have a perfect reputation on here .... but I am the exception. I bought the same bag and yes, it rattles. The cord thing is hopeless and after just three times of changing it from one bike to another (not an unreasonable ask) the wire now needs replacing (£7). I will buy this cord and then sell the bag. Undoubtedly it will go for good money.

I also have a seat bag with their "folding over" closing affair which I have lost things out of in the past. It claims to have a large capacity but when it's all folded over and secure, the bag is tiny which is what I didn't want.

The last few cars I've bought were of the same country of origin too and they broke as well. Nothing special at all.

It's hype I'm afraid. There's better out there and the others put money into the product rather than the marketing....

I now await the halo defence around Ortlieb.....

I don't like the handlebar mount. I've just fitted my third. One cracked, on another the plastic got brittle around the lock nut and it pulled away. I've also had a couple of extra cables as reusing them is difficult. A more reusable mount would be good as Id rather not have the block in place all year. The only problem I've had with the bag is the map case blowing over when the wind gets behind it.
