Chances are you left it at work and never even fitted it to the bike.

A few weeks ago, we got back from a ride and I discovered I'd "lost" my toolbox from my rackpack.
After racking my brains, there were 2 options:
1. It'd been nicked from my bag when parked outside the local shop.
2. I'd left it on a wall 14 miles from home, when I'd swapped jackets in the strong wind.

A couple of days later I retraced the ride and could find no sign of it on the wall or in the adjacent garden.
Next day I went shopping and replaced all tools.

Next weekend, I was clearing out the locker on the side of our motorhome and found the box in there.
I'd put it in there for safe keeping while my bike was left on the back of the 'van parked up at a marina for the week. :?

Ho hum.

I have lost a panner during a ride and not noticed at the moment. It was on a rough track though. Spotted it at the next gate. Had to climb back up a hill to get it.

A friend lost his pannier going over a level crossing, didn't notice until the ride ended. Just got back there in time with a car before the level crossing attendant sent it off into the bowels of the BR lost property system.

Probably at work - I once forgot my car there and I was just in my mid twenties, when it happened....

Hi timmitchell,
Worry you not !
My wife called out to me from the kitchen on Wens, demanding to know what a pair of my dirty socks were doing in the fridge . I could have sworn i'd put them in the washing machine !
Tried to cover up this error by demanding to know who she was and what was she doing in my wife's kitchen .
Didn't work though !
