Right!
Coffee= Lavazza or Hasbeans Monsoon Malibar, freshly perculated, black strong.

Tea=Much as it pains me to say but Yorkshire tea is the best with Twinnings Earl Grey a close second, black, strong.

Why anyone wants to pollute good tea or coffee with milk or sugar is a mystery to me :? :)

PS If you want to sweeten either of the above drinks eat a Kit Kat (four finger one)with it :)

BTW In a decent coffee shop I don't mind the wait for a decent coffee :)

reohn2, I could have written that post myself :-)

Waitrose own brand Italian dark roast beans are also up there with the best.

Monsoon Malabar I'll go with. Black, 1/2 a pint with 2 heaped sugars. If I'm on instant it has to be Kenco blue label. Served likewise.
Tea, Yorkshire, (used to prefer Co-op 99 but it's disappeared) strong enough to stand the spoon in, Arkwright Colliery Survey Office style, just a dash of skimmed milk to take the edge off, no sugar.
We once got a lecture from the boss how to make tea. The Office Clown, now unfortunately no longer with us, made the next brew. Loose tea, cup 3/4 full of leaves, spoon upright but otherwise you couldn't tell. Malcolm was working in his back office, the tea was quietly slipped onto the desk at the side of him. 2 minutes later there was an enormous enraged roar.... CALLADINE!! We all ran for it. Next day was pit shifts all round.

Round here the fancy coffee shop charges more for a cup than the pub next door does for a pint of Batemans which is so much tastier and more refreshing.
Incidently Wetherspoons do a fancy coffee brand - Lavazzo for about 1/2 the price of Cost et al.

I'm also mystified as to why these "foreign coffee shop formats" are successful. I think it may be due to young people, and older people who should know better, trying to be "cool" and fashionable.
They don't even sell "instant" and the coffee comes in different sizes of "cup". Apparently I take a "regular". They even sell "cookies"!
What's an Americano when it's at home?
I prefer a tea shop and a slice of cake.
If you want to drink an Americano and eat a cookie, go and live somewhere else, I say.

Instant coffee - coffee for people who don't like coffee. If even instant coffee is too much like coffee for you to cope with (hard to imagine, I know) there's always Mellow Birds.
