Loose cleats
I just got a pair of smart (and expensive) leather touring shoes that use SPD cleats. The shoes are lovely and comfortable - but the cleats start to come loose after about 30 miles. I have tightened them. Same thing happens. I have applied loctite and that didn't keep them tight either. What else can I do?
Re: Loose cleats
If you've got another pair of SPD shoes try swapping over the plates that the cleat bolts attach via.
Re: Loose cleats
Are the ends of the fixing screws bottoming out against the sole of the shoe? Some cleats are/were supllied with two sets of fixing bolts - long and short.
I should coco.
Re: Loose cleats
I usually have the opposite problem. No matter how much oil, grease/molyslip etc I put on the bolts, they always seize in and have to be drilled out with a left threaded bit. The most recent set have been copper greased but I'm not optimistic.
If at first you don't succeed - cheat!!

Re: Loose cleats
Thanks people for your interesting input. I have tried thread lock with no success. I have tried using the bolts off my old shoes. Next step I guess is swapping the plates over as well. But, would you know it, the cleat on one of my old shoes is tuck fast!

Re: Loose cleats
Maybe I am being completely dumb: do you have to cut out a section on the sole, as I did with my Shimanos? These are QP shoes and came with no instructions.
