Does anyone know a way of counteracting this? Say a small stand ect. I have to keep my bike in one (or lug it up four floors - no lift). I was thinking a small stand might or something it could lean on might be beneficial. At the moment I can see it putting a lot of pressure on the spokes and bending them. They do return straight when I take it out but it might not forever.

You mean those bike racks that hold the bike up just by the front wheel? I don't like them, I use a pletcher bike stand and if I have to leave my bike at one of those racks I just use my stand and use the rack just as something to lock the bike to.

I was thinking of something I would leave there but that could work. We have rows upon rows of metal fences at uni so its no problem there..

There are a lot of cycle stands where I work, all rim-benders, on a windy day many cycles are blown over, Minus One
I leave my machine leaned safely against a post outside and enjoy walking 300m

so you intend to leave your bike floors down ready to be stolen by some one?. I have to carry my bike up 3 floors round narrow winding stairs. I have to stop at each floor for a rest.

It is locked to an upright and protected from rain, got two more bikes if it is nicked
A home it lives inside of course, a few steps down
Used to live on the third floor, carried my bike up the stairs
