A good idea is to take a digital camera in with you for your next visit to see the consultant or physio and take a photo of the X-ray when it is displayed.
This tip came from the radiographer after i broke my collarbone in a cycling accident.

Good idea rjb. X-rays in Scotland are uploaded to an intranet and can be viewed by doctors anywhere in Scotland, possibly my GP. Hopefully I'll be able to get it downloaded to a USB.

Re: Broken shoulder - grrrr
18 months ago I hit a kerb at about 20mph went over the bars and hit steel post back-first. I broke my shoulder-blade into 3 pieces (not near the joint but on the blade itself). I was off work for 3 weeks, couldn't drive for a further week and given the all-clear for cycling 2 weeks after that. I thought I'd broken my wrist but it was just bruised - it was by far the most painful injury. The only treatment I received was a sling and (very) basic physiotherapy but they did surprisingly give me priority for the fracture clinic over a small girl (8/9 year-old) with a broken leg.
It was a couple of days after my 54th birthday and there have been no lasting after effects thankfully, but I have modified my cycling slightly in that I now spend less time looking at my gears and more time looking at the road ahead........
Big thanks to the unknown motorist who kindly stopped and took me home, I'd like to buy him a pint but despite being local to me I've not seen him since.
Flat tyre, I hope your injury heals as well as mine did mate.
