I have a gold Rodanai automatic which was a present for my 21st birthday but I rarely wear it. Since retiring I don't bother with a watch. Sometimes don't even know what day it it.

Here's me in 1971 - Singapore - with my new watch.
Anyone know what sort of snake that is?
Hi Mick
Mrs FW and I have just had a weekend with our nephew in Silloth up in Cumbria. Chris has two snakes and one has similar markings and is a Boa constrictor called "Feather"

No but it looks like a Morris Oxford Taxi and a Honda 90 in the background

I have a Rotary bought as a wedding present from Mrs R2 because I don't wear a wedding ring.
And I've just given away an Omega to my brother's widow following my sister's death some weeks ago,the reason is a little complicated so I won't go into it.

That's most likely a Rat Snake - they are very common and the one you are holding is about the same size and markings of many of those I have come across in the Far East - although that one seems quite tame, they can sometimes be aggressive...or perhaps that's because they knew we were likely to eat them!!

I have a couple of Seiko automatics (day & date), one a bit bashed up I wear for work, the other needs servicing. I also have a Charles Ward automatic my wife bought me as a wedding present. Love that watch, very accurate & reliable, the mechanism can also be wound to keep it running if I don't wear it for a couple of days & has a glass back so you can see the pendulum and workings winding it up.
My father bought me my first automatic when I was 12 as he was fed up with repairing broken springs! I've just kept with them, I love the silent sweep of the second hand rather than the incessant ticking of quartz watches. I did try a digital, but couldn't get on with it...

I have somewhere a Seiko similar to the one Mick was showing. I used it until the winder fell off, and the local jewellers wouldn't quote to fix. Dad had it for work as he wasn't allowed to wear anything electronic,he didn't use it after he retired . I just really liked the watch.

I still wear my genuine Japanese Rolex Explorer that has a wind-up mech.

I thought it was Mr Shimano's interest in fishing reels that introduced wind-up merchants to cycling forums.

I still have my Citizen, bought in 1977. Cost what at the time was a fortune to me. Had to be sent for repair several times. Doesn't keep accurate time now. A bit of a dead loss really. It was so heavy I was in danger of having one arm longer than t'other.

Amongst many, I have a £5 one from Argos that has been running on the same battery now for 5 years. Multi function of course but I don't know how it works. My four kids went through phases of buying me watches. Trouble is I don't wear a watch normally so when visiting the kids I have to try to remember where the watch is that child bought me and wear it otherwise they ask.

I recently bought four mechanical watches for £5 each at an antique fair. They are Chancellor 1976 watches and apparently were part of a job lot of 1,000 rescued from an old bingo hall.
I've bought a couple of Ingersoll watches, a 1960's German watch and a Russian aviator watch all at various antique fairs.
