Re: ribble
Ribble are one of the biggest and most established cycling retailers in the country. They specialise in custom building road bikes onto a range of frames, but they also sell a range of road bike parts, accessories and clothing. Their prices are usually very competitive.
They used to have a very good shop on the outskirts of Preston, but this went a couple of years ago, and now they concentrate on mail order business, from a unit on an industrial estate. You can turn up there to collect your internet orders, and they have a bit of a showroom with some of their bikes on display.
They are not always the fastest at delivery but as a rule of thumb, expect your goods within a week of ordering and you won't be disappointed. I've heard rumours of long lead times for complete bike builds, and it's always worth checking before you order.
I've been using Ribble for 20 years (the shop and the website) and I've always found them OK. However to the best of my knowledge they do not really focus on touring bikes, if that's what you want. They do offer an aluminium "audax" bike which can be used as a light tourer and is good value.

Endorse most of what has been said.
They are one of the cheapest internet companies around.
If you are local(ish) you can call into the warehouse showroom, probably a good idea if you are considering buying a bike. You can also collect internet orders from the showroom.
At around this time of the year they start to sell their 'winter training bike'. Do not be put off by this title I bought one a couple of years ago for my son, with rack it is robust enough to be a touring bike.

Virtually unbeatable on price, normally by a significant margin. Have heard some iffy reports of service but personally I've always found them very good via email when dealing with returns and enquiries. (I've only ever ordered parts/accessories, never a bike, FWIW.)
