Amazing day out!

Post by Bill Reynolds »

On Thursday I did something great! I rode down to Bromsgrove Station on my Dahon 'Speed 7' folding bike through the country lanes. It was also a lovely day. I got onto the train and went to Worcester Forgate Street station for £1.90p. I then rode down to Pershore using a leaflet I picked up concerning route 44 of the Sustrans thingy. It was only 20 odd miles but lovely views all the way. Just missed the return bus back to Worcester so rode to the local station. It cost me £2. 40p to ride 'Great West' back to Worcester. I peddled for five miles up the A38 before catching the bus home!....Your proberly thinking.... "big deal...so what ....anybody can do that"! Well I am profoundly deaf and I have never dared used the train or the bus before whist on a cycle ride. Suddenly I find my possible area of rides has expanded ten-fold!! Glad I listened to my wife's saying....'nothing ventured...nothing gained'!

Well done Bill!

I use the cross city line now and then and it does open up a whole new land full of pleasent riding down to the SW of Birmingham - it's much nicer down there than up here in N.Brum: they have real hills for a start

Congratulations Bill,
Thanks for sharing it with us, sometimes we forget how daunting the world can be; I hope we never forget how resilient the human spirit is in coping with it. Good on yer mate!

Thanks for those kind words, the problem of course is not being able to hear station announcers/messages from the train guard over the speakers, etc. and to use a mobile phone with speech. Si, I have a 'do' list now, down it a bit is a ride to Lichfield on the cross-city line, any idea how far Cannock Chase is from the Lichfield city station?? All these wonderfull possibilitys open to me thanks to my Dahon folder!

Cannock Chase is around 5miles from Lichfield - the ride is quite pleasent - you can even follow the on-road sustrans route (5?) for part of it.
