Been on to the seller and been issued with a full refund and told to keep the frame. I will offer them a few bob though as they have been reasonable.

Well done. That seems very reasonable.

They did not want to know at first till I pointed out that they were actually selling a fake product. Although I do admit that it is a good paintjob. Now curious, I've weighed it and wonder what total weight it would be kitted out as a tourer. Frame fork, BB and headset come in at just under 4KG. Anybody know if that is heavy? Would the rest of the kit come out at more than 9kg, total 13kg which I think is Galaxy weight?

No they aren't forged dropouts and it isn't a "quality frame"

Just curious as to why someone would have spent a fair bit of money for that paint job - around £100 and then about 30 quid on transfers
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Colnago-Bicyc ... 1105wt_932 if it is a duff quality frame. It doesn't appear to be an attempt to deceive else why sell for a lot less than cost of paint job and transfers.
Genuine steel Colnago frames always have that cloverleaf symbol cast into the fork crown.

Although it is a very good paint job I think it was an amateur undertaking as the seller informed me that the paint is
"Ford Purple Velvet Metalic, Ford Ink Blue Metalis & Fiat Golden Yellow." White unknown. It does look good but how it rides is an unknown until you have spent time and money building it. As it is not a quality [501,531 etc] frame I would prefer not to bother investing in it and will probably sell it on for a pub bike project etc.

I can't believe you've managed to force a refund out of the seller. He must have been worried about his 100% feedback rating. It's very obvious to any buyer that it is not a Colnago. When he says it has Colnago decals, he's obviously saying that the frame isn't. Why do you think it only sold for £35. A genuine Colnago frame would have sold for a lot more. I would still say that you have got a bargain and the bike looks lovely made up.

It was offered to me as second highest bidder. I've already paid an amount to the seller as a gesture of goodwill as I did not want them out of pocket and they are quite happy with this as it was unexpected and not asked for. The seller actually told me to not bother sending the frame back though I offered.

Judging from the questions you are asking, you know little about bikes. You say the paint job is very good and the only derogatory comment is toward the dropouts, so the frame could posibly be made of a quality steel. You've got a lot of the bits already. You purchased the bike as a project. Why not carry on and do it as good practice for the next one, and who knows you may enjoy riding it. As I've said, the complete bike made up by the previous owner looks very good.
