I used to use a survival bag regularly with a synthetic (hollofill) bag. If I was in the survival bag all night the condensation was on the verge of soaking through the sleeping bag & onto me by the morning. The general technique was to use it as a groundsheet unless it was actually raining.
A goretex bivvy bag is good with a down bag, apart from the problem of getting into or out of the bag without getting wet should there be significant rain at the time
