not that i'm pedantic or anything

but it should be "whiskies" as you're discussing the scotch variety.

A true pedant would point out that the Irish ones are "Whiskeys"; "Whiskey's" means either "Whiskey is" or "belonging to Whiskey", so I'm afraid that's only amateur pedantry there

.

The important thing here is that they're plural, i.e. you need to have more than one bottle of whisky

That's the problem. "Whiskey's" isn't plural

Talking of plurals, one that gets up my nose is "paninis".
The plural of panino is panini, same as bambino/bambini, paparazzo/paparazzi etc

Check out the scotch malt whisky society. I used to be a member when living in Edinburgh.
They sell single cask single malt. They buy whisky as individual casks from all sorts of distilleries around Scotland and bottle it themselves as cask strength. Every bottling tastes unique and it's really an amazing palate of flavours and smells that come through.
You can only buy their bottles if you're a member (£75 per annum). Mine has sadly lapsed having moved away since - they also have beautiful members rooms inEdinburgh and one in London which helped to justify being a member.
Fond memories of their Sunday carvery, sat by the fire and tasting the new bottlings.
Anyway, if anyone's interested I think you can get their whiskies from some malmaison hotels and Hotel Du Vin run tasting nights at some of their hotels in England.
Other than this, talisker, bruichladaich (sp?) and lagavulin are my favourites.

Im gonna flag up one not mentioned so far on here.
Aberfeldy is excellent, the best I have tried to date (and there has been many!)
I was introduced to this when I cycled in Pitlochry in May this year, I cycled past the distillery and went in for a peak. I only bought one bottle as it was all I could carry at the time, never so far seen it for sale outside Scotland. If ever you are passing, do take a dram it really is the business.
Has anyone cycled the Whisky Trail in Scotland?

The best whisky I know of is any pre 1978 Ardbeg. Superb but expensive. Of more affordable stuff I'd go for Laphroig.
