Lincolnshire Wolds part 2

OK, so I think I have a route for my tour of the Lincolnshire Wolds and coast in April.
Day one: Train to Lincoln, Lincoln south to Tattershall on NCR 1 then across to Wainfleet, 52 miles
Day two: Into Skegness, ridea along the front and down to Gibraltar Point and back, then inland to Lincolnshire Wolds, north as far as about Binbrook, 52 miles.
Day three: Binbrook area to Cleethorpes, ride along the front a few times then to Barton upon Humber, 43 miles,
Day four: Barton across the Humber Bridge, through Hull out to Kilnsea and back to Withernsea, 50 miles
Day five: Withernsea up the coast to about Aldbrough or perhaps further then inland to Beverley, 46 miles, see the Minster then either ride or train down to Hull for train home.
Any thoughts on this route?
Questions: the route from Cleethorpes to Barton looks dull, does any one know of a good route? Or should I give Clee a miss and save myself some miles by following route 1 straight to the Humber Bridge from the north end of the Lincolnshire Wolds? The coast from Kilnsea up to Hornsea, is it a good ride and does anyone know some pretty inland routes from the coast to Beverley?
Thanks in advance.

Can't really comment much on the Lincs side, but once over the Humber Bridge I'd query your choice of pedalling to Withernsea. That whole corner of Holderness isn't at all scenic.
Maybe consider taking the TPT from Hull to Hornsea. Then, if you have the time to get to Bridlington take the Way of the Roses back to Driffield, continue through Hutton Cranswick then before you hit Bainton pick up the minor roads to Beverley. If It's too many miles just cut Brid out and go Hornsea-Burton Agnes.
The landscape (at least from Brid) is gentle rolling and is a very pleasant route to cycle. You're skirting where the Yorkshire Wolds meets the Holderness plain.
I'll plot it in BRT and post a link if you wish.

from lincoln, i'd follow the witham to bardney (stop for tea at the old station) then straight to binbrook
i like withernsea, the lighthouse museum is worth a visit, certainly more so than gib. point or smegmess

Having ridden their several times this year....
Cleethorpes, ride along the front a few times then to Barton upon Humber - Yes boring would skip it.
If your going to withernsea there is an old railway route, now a cycle track via hedon that is good and goes three quarters of the way. If your going to withernsea why not go via spurn point as it is more interesting and scenic (quiet as well)
If your going to beverley from humber bridge consider going via south cave, some nice countryside and you avoid busy hull.
cheers

from beverley, there is a ncn route, take it to swine, from there head to tickton quite country roads (except for 2 miles on an A road) then from tickton it is back roads into beverley.
From beverley via the church is another ncn road that takes ou to cottingham through a farm (Where cars are not allowed) and is very pleasant to ride.
if you need a map let me know of any route.

Only go to Cleethorpes if you are desperate for some of the worst greasy spoon cafes in UK. And then you can get the second worst in Grimsby. However, if you do go there then check out the Humber wall with a bit of jiggling you should be able to pick it up outside Grimsby and get to the other side of Immingham. Well on the way to Humber Bridge.
Second thoughts don't do too much jiggling in Grimsby the fishermen might get the wrong message.

I have no idea where you will stay in Binbrook..You would find a campsite in Walesby or B and B in Market Rasen..
From Binbrook or Rasen you can pick up Route one which goes straight to Barton..from Walesby or Rasen..or Binbrook head to Rothwell ,then Swallow..cross over the A46..head to Great Limber..then Grasby Bottoms..there is a bridle way from there to take you to New Barnetby or head to Kirmington from Grasby Bottoms..go over into Kirmington head to Croxton..from Croxton take the road to Barton.(.There is a good cafe at Melton Ross that you can get to from Croxton..From Melton Ross you can cycle down the pavement to the official route One into Barton..or you can get to it from New Barnetby if you take the Bridle path route..)
As to Cleethorpes..you could cycle from Binbrook to Ludborough to Fulstow to Marshchapel ..to North Cotes to Tetney Lock..from Tetney Lock there is a good farm track that leads to Humberston and so to Cleethorpes..Lots of good cafes along the front..some really good fish and chip shops..none better anywhere..From Cleethorpes you could head out to Laceby along the cycle track up to Irby and so to Swallow and pick up the route I described before..
You will be cycling through some of the loveliest scenery in England..don't tell anyone!

Very kind of you V4281051, you make it sound like a nice route so I think I'll do that and I'm already fancying those fish and chip shops in Clee. You mention the farm track from Tetney Lock to Humberston and the bridleway from Grasby Bottoms to New Barnetby. Are they going to be ok on 25 mm tyres? As to Cleethorpes to Laceby along the cycle track, I have OS 1:50000 on Quo maps but can't see it on there. Any clues to where it is?

Re: chippies at Cleethorpes. There's others, but one that's generally highly regarded is Steels:
http://www.steelscornerhouse.co.uk/I've found them a bit pot luck on the front, although maybe just bad luck on my part. Certainly better than down south where I live atm, but you can get bad fish and chips in Cleethorpes and Grimsby like anywhere else.

Ernie Becketts, opposite Steels, is well regarded by locals..including me..and Suthies in St.Peters Avenue is excellent..Brenda's chippy near the Hawaiian Eye cafe ,opposite the pier..is very cycle friendly..

Think you will struggle on both bridle tracks with 25mm tyres..especially with luggage on board..Perhaps better just to ride straight to Waltham from Binbrook..From Waltham there is a cycle lane all the way to Tescos in Cleethorpes..and from there a cycle lane can take you to Humberston if you wish..or go straight ahead to Cleethorpes..
To get to Laceby and through Irby to Swallow go from Cleethorpes to Grimsby down the A46..cycle lane most of the way..When you get to Morrison's cross over to the right hand side for a bike lane to Laceby..

I'm finding difficulties finding out the details of a campsite in Barton upon Humber. The OS map shows one in the Waters Edge Country Park, near the river but I can only trace details of one on the Barrow Rd, which only has 5 pitches. Any ideas of the contact details of the one near the Humber?

Do not think the Siver Birches Caravan park in Waterside Road takes tents anymore..Cannot think of any sites nearby..
if you are ending the day there then catch a train to Cleethorpes..camp there and catch the train back the next day..

silver birches don't take tents anymore.
There are two camping and caravanning club certified sites in barton (from 2 to 5 pounds) the first one below only has a chemical toilet (smells a lot), the second a field and decent toilet portacabin (2 miles outside of barrow)
Officially you have to be a member but when I was there non members were staying - so worth a try.

I was brought up in that part of the country but don't live there now. I do go back now and again, though, and enjoy the cycling there. I would agree that the ride to Spurn Point is a must. Absolutely fascinating - and it may not be there much longer!
