+1
The accompanying picture suggests there will be significance in where the deceased rider was at the time of the collision.
(All adding to the misery of the bereaved.)

Condolences to family and friends.
I know it may not seem the time to say this but if loved ones are reading: get in touch with Roadpeace

They will offer a range of support; emotional and practical.

No further info but it's on the BBC site... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-north-east-wales-16902829
I'm being extremely presumptuous, but I assume this will on the stretch of National Route 5 which goes from traffic free to bad road conditions in Flint... I've heard this stretch flagged up so many times.
Just awful. My condolences.

Re: Sad News Once again !
The website of the Flintshire Chronicle has a video of the police carrying out measurements of the accident site. As far can be seen from the video, it looks like the unfortunate cyclist was actually on the pavement (which is dual-use at this point). Whatever the case, it's very curious. Condolences to Mr Mort's family.

Edit: Apologies, I've just realised that this video is on the Daily Post site linked at the top of this thread too.

Condolences to all involved.
Difficult to make suppositions at this stage, it could be that the cyclist landed on the dual use paved area, we all need to wait for the results as/when they become available

I can think of a number of possibilities, which would put the fault in different directions and proportions. Better to wait for the outcome of investigations.

You can't ban them - but their speed limit should be as per HGVs - that'd stop them being used quite so inappropriately most of the time.
Of course you then need intelligent speed cameras - combined speed and anpr cameras, then regular "slight" speeding could result in a summons to a speedometer testing service.
A shortcut has to be a challenge, otherwise it would just be the way. No situation is so dire that panic cannot make it worse.

Speaking personally, I'm grateful that you are keeping us updated with this. (Even if the use of the word "collided" in the report is controversial.)
This will probably now go away for a while (except for those closely involved, of course) and I, for one, keep lots of reminders to keep checking on cases to see if there have been further reports.
