England Manager? I guess you could not do a worse job!

Do you know, I never look at the front or home page. I go straight onto the sections that I want to look on.
Unless it's changed since I put the appropriate sections into my 'favourites', it's such a heck of a site to find my way through to what I want, that I don't bother.
Now that's something else that Cycle Cat could do as well as the sitting tenant - revamp and organise the web-site.

Whatever you do, don't get a job in Al Frauds. If you can fix bicycles you are over qualified. What else are you interested in? Working with the elderly is very rewarding. Have you thought of working in a school, the holidays are excellent? Loads of cycling during the summer. Good luck.

Re: I need a new job...
I'm feeling trapped where I am and would dearly love to find something satisfying, however.... Its complicated.
Feeling throughly cheesed off with the mercenary way that the recruitment dept of a company had rung me up, asked loads of questions and then ended with saying that I would be having a telephone interview and that she would get back to me when she had a date... Then silence. And on top of similar treatment time and time again to the point where I just cannot get enthusiastic about a response any more, I decided to express my feelings by penning this.
To the tune of 'She's leaving home' by The Beatles.
Tuesday evening past 4pm as the day nears its end.
Listlessly watching the ticking hand, kicking his heels on the carpet pile,
he looks out the window and catches sight of the amber street lights.
See the raindrops run on down the window, hears the voices as they all head off home.
He..... Given this most of our lives.
is wanting..... Driven by project deadlines.
to go..... We get up early to come into work.
He is untasked and he's sat there ignored for so many years.
Wednesday morning at 8am and the boss is at work.
Get's up so early to beat the roads rush. Leaves a warm bed so to drive in the dark.
He sends out reports then he goes to meetings that fill his day so.
Faithfully follows responsibilities, keeps the pa-per-work mo-ving endlessly.
He....
Wednesday lunchtime, a moments relief for the aching soul.
What am I doing here, does no one care? Time slipping by, a life wasted so.
He thinks, how can I change this? How can I turn my drab fortunes around?
Why did I come here at all, he thinks. There's so much more I could be doing instead.
He.....
Three pm and a phonecall from someone who's chasing a fee.
There is a vacancy you might fill well. I'll send the jobspec, so please look at it.
He thinks, I've been here before, hopes are raised, then are dashed to the floor.
How long before one will lead me away? Will this one drop me, or lift me up high?
He....
He's walking out. Bye bye.

Bikeability instructor?
They're always looking round my way. Though, I understand there isn't as much demand in some areas.

Did you ever succeed in finding pastures new?
I left my job on 7th Feb., because I simply couldn't stand it any more. I find it focuses the mind more when you haven't got to get up and do something you detest.
I stayed far longer than I should have, simply because it had become routine, and at the end of each day I had no mental energy left to start looking elsewhere.

Re: I need a new job...
I quit my job just over 2 years ago without a new one to go to. My wife was in a bit of a panic but I had had enough. I have to give 3 month notice and ended up staying for 4 months because they couldn't find a suitable replacement for me. That was somewhat gratifying. I found another job before I actually left so it all worked out in the end. I agree it was a very irrational thing to do and I had not done such a thing before but sometimes you just have to make a stand.

Re: I need a new job...
Left my job 10 years ago this year because I couldn't stand it either. Still haven't found a 'proper' job since then, but have had some very gratifying experiences in the mean time. My most recent part time temporary job paid around 1/8th of what my proper job did, yet life has been much more enjoyable and rewarding in that time.
Of course, financially it hasn't been overly easy, and I'm sure that there are many who aren't in my privileged position to start with and so couldn't do similar, but it's amazing how little I noticed the reduction in income - money frittered away on useless toys expands to fill whatever you are earning once you get over a certain level.

Re: I need a new job...
+1 for that Si. When I quit my job my wife went on an economy drive. I was amazed how little we spent but didn't really feel deprived. I drew the line at the cheap toilet paper though.

Consider yourself lucky. Oh the joys of being a student.
Re: I need a new job...
I am still looking. I've got some holiday coming up which will help
me to clear my head and do some applications.
Something to do with cycling would be nice. There aren't many bike shops
around here.

Still looking. It needs to be more than minimum wage if I'm to travel.
I wondered what I would need to become a counsellor as people come to
me with their problems and I might as well get paid for it!
Seems I need to do an expensive course unless anyone knows different.
Very wary of doing courses with no job at the end.
Been there done that.
Something will turn up eventually.
I just get fed up with having no money.
I keep getting drawn to the hospital side of things.
I wonder about becoming a paramedic as I did a first aid
course and a defibrillator course at work.
I need to train and be paid at the same time!
