I was looking at these Sheldon Fender Nuts and wondered if they only worked with modern allen key fitted style brakes as opposed to the older nutted style brakes.
It would be useful if they worked on both sets does anyone know if they do?
Much appreciated.

Re: Sheldon Fender Nuts
the threads are the same, but you need to worry about how long the threads on the brake bolt are and how big the hole in the frame is.
The other solution to the 'roadbike' problem is to put the mudguard bracket between the brake and the frame instead
cheers

Re: Sheldon Fender Nuts
Do you mean just bolt it on to the back of the fork or brake hanger?
Re: Sheldon Fender Nuts
what I mean is to put the mudguard bracket in front of the fork, so that the brake bolt goes through the bracket before it goes through the fork crown. You can do something similar at the back too.
What parts/frame are you trying to work with?

Re: Sheldon Fender Nuts
Quite old Shimano 600 brakes. The bike is 1967.

Fine looking machine.

Re: Sheldon Fender Nuts
Thank you.
It needs a respray.
I was lucky in that the bike came already with 130mm vertical drop outs.
When it gets resprayed I may try out Campag 10 speed Compact 50/34.
I've put it off as I just enjoy riding it.
It's 7 speed at the moment. The rear wheel pulled a spoke at Christmas so I just whacked on a spare from the loft with a spacer to continue with the 7 speed block which looks like it will never wear out.
It's very nippy.
I have decided to fit:
Crud Road Racer Mudguard Mk2 Pair 700c Black

Re: Sheldon Fender Nuts
it looks to me as if you can mount the mudguards conventionally at the brakes (although you might need some thinner spacers perhaps). I guess you'll need 'P' clips or some other kind of brackets at the dropouts from the look of it.
The 'sheldon nuts' won't be any use to you unless the frame has 8mm holes in it since there is an 8mm diameter section that enters the frame.
Nice bike BTW.... If you want 'period correct' reynolds transfers they can be had from H Lloyd.
cheers

Re: Sheldon Fender Nuts
Once upon a time, it used to be common to see rear mudguard bridges with a s couple of spring clips, intead of the central tab of the brake bolt. I suppose they were intended to make it a bit quicker to remove the rear mudguard. Probably something that's not been available for a long time.
Re: Sheldon Fender Nuts
Probably connecting nuts will do the job...

The problem may be that your brakes are imperial threaded.

Re: Sheldon Fender Nuts
Are those nuts available in the UK?
Re: Sheldon Fender Nuts
I'm not sure whether you're reffering to the connecting nuts I've linked above? In which case, yes they are (it's a UK ebay seller).drossall wrote:Are those nuts available in the UK?
Re: Sheldon Fender Nuts
No, sorry, the Sheldon fender nuts. My fault for vague writing.
