ST Davids - Lowestoft

Post by Kingswood Gas »

I am doing Coast to Coast April 12-16th starting at St davids. I have mapped my route and am well prepared. I am used to touring since I did a solo LEJOG last year. What I need help on is accomodation in St Davids. The YH in St Davids for 12th April has no rooms and there seems to be no cheap £20-£40 B&B's in the area which I can find on google. The only one I came across (The Alandale) has no vacancies. Can anyone suggest any cheap accommodation in this area. I am travelling solo would require single bed. I also do not do camping! Any help will be gratefully received.

We did this ride in 2006 ... started at St David's mid-afternoon and rode an easy <20 miles IIRC to Fishguard to stay the night - lots of B&Bs and cheap small hotels.

As above, Fishguard. There is a YHA hostel about 10km west of it. We stayed there, it's right on one of the cliffs, great views. Plenty of places in Fishguard too. Are you taking camping gear? You could wild camp that night...

Give me a clue of your Pembrokeshire leg and I'll see what I can find.

I am going on the A road towards Haverfordwest! Getting the train to Haverfordwest arriving 14.15! I then got a 16 mile ride to St Davids. I could consider staying Haverfordwest if no ones got any St davids suggestions!

The simpler solution is to get the bus from Haverfordwest to St David's (IIRC it meets the train at the station) - no problem with bikes - the driver didn't bat an eyelid at two bikes when we rode .. that got us to St D in time to then ride to Fishguard

The A road from H'West to St. Davids isn't a great cycling road. I would suggest getting off at Clarbeston Road and riding across country via Wolf's Castle, Hayscastle Cross, Llandeloy, Whitchurch and into St. Davids.
I can recommend a good B+B in Llys Y Fran, not far from Clarbeston Road. Very comfy and quiet. http://www.farmstay.co.uk/b-and-b/pembrokeshire-clarbeston-road-llysyfran-farm-801/ Tell Sandra I recommended you!

The trains run to Fishguard 5 times a day now. The coastal road is another option that would be better than cycling from H'West.
There is a backpackers hostel in Fishguard that's ok that I can get the details for if you require.

I live about 10 miles from Fishguard so I should be able to find out anything you need.

Thank you for all the great advice! I have decided that I will start from St Davids and have found a place called the City Inn which is in the High Street of St Davids. Has anyone stayed there? and what is it like? There is only a handful of reviews on Trip advisor. Before I book I have sent a question to the hotelier asking whether they have secure storage!
