Can anyone tell me how to date a Dawes frame from the serial number?

And when did Dawes stop building frames in the UK?

Have tried to get date information from Dawes - they say there are no records! ... best bet is the old boy in the brown smock at the LBS who would be able to give a pretty good idea of age from the paint-job.

I don't know when Dawes stopped building frames in the UK - possibly 2002ish? I believe that to start with they stopped making frames and imported them from E Europe/Far East to assemble here in the UK ... but then changed to importing complete bikes.

Depends which type of frame it is, they were still making the Tandem frames when I went to see them in the early 90's
