I'm doing the Lymington 160k at the end of April. The last time I did this distance was 12 years ago when I found it very hard. Have been doing 6 hours on the road and 2 hours in gym every week since Christmas so I'm hopeful that I'll be better prepared this time. Also have done a few 100k rides this year that were fine. I can't help but think that me using my Mercian Audax is cheating compared to a 3 speed Raleigh!

Completed my first century last week. took all day. Southampton - newbury - hungerford - wallops - southampton.
nakered at the end but felt fine next day, glad i did it and will be looking to do more but quicker. I did enjoy my battered sausage and chips in tidworth though.

Is that the Granite & Serpentine? I did that last year and should be on it again this year. It is not too bad for hills and the scenery should be nice, especially along the North Coast up to Pendeen, as long as the weather holds (it was all mist and rain last year), but the road surface back from The Lizard is not so great. Good feed stops as well. This year I also want to do the Four Hundreds 200 from Penzance and the Tour of the Moors 200 from Launceston.
Did my first century of the year (did 3 last year, best being 110 miles) last Sunday, 105 miles, windy at times and 6800ft of ascent according to Bikehike. 9.30 am to 7.15pm which I make 10.8mph average speed. This about 17.4kmh and as I want to do some 200K Audaxes this year I need a minimum speed of 15kmh over that distance, so I feel I am pretty much on track. I have 27 gears with a bottom ratio of 28", which I did use a bit on the later parts of the ride.

Saw some of the Falmouth Wheelers at the cafe at Trevarno on the Sunday before last. I'm probably going to do most of the rides on that list.
I know Martyn Aldis, who runs the Granite & Serpentine, quite well, I rode the Dartmoor Devil with him last year and 2010, and we both managed to get our ugly mugs in quite a few of last year's photos, eg:

Martyn is on the Moulton, wearing the Audax Kernow jersey.

I know Martyn well, he's a club member. Rode his Equinox ride last Sunday, very good day

LOL, I was with my regular Sunday riding bunch from Penzance, we call ourselves the Penzance Wheezers.
I did the Equinox last year, that last section before the King Harry Ferry has a few steep bits doesn't it.

Well the wife is away for a couple of days , so I took it upon myself to ride a Century on the Gov'nor ( I have converted it to a 5 speed to help with the hills around here ).
The day started cold but bright , but soon warmed up (well I did ), stopped at 46 miles in a pub for some fuel , then trecked on ,
The worst part was Bury hill at 89 mile mark , had to do it in quite a few chunks ( but I did'nt walk it ! )
104 miles later I'm home rather tired , drinking a tin of Tangle Foot , feeling rather tired .
clik the link if you want to see the route

audax actually looks much more fun than sprtives. not so much posing for a start! and the entry fees!

Just paid my £3, if I don't manage to get to the start it is no big loss. Trying to find out who else I know is doing it.

I'm unlikely to start on a cornish one. Might wait for the Meopham 200km later in the month!
Is GPS cheating?

If GPS is cheating, I have cheated on every Audax I have ridden.
No there is even a special type of Audax which relies on having a GPS to prove you rode it.
Audaxes are not always cheaper. All those cafe stops can soon cost more than the Sportive fee and Sportives include
feeding in the price.
Personally I would rather go hungry than consume that stuff though.
