CYCLING IN LONDON - A REPORT BY JENNY JONES ASSEMBLY MEMBER GLA - FEBRUARY 2012
http://www.london.gov.uk/profile/jenny-jones/reports
The report is based on conversations with cyclists across London and trips around their local areas. That includes the much neglected areas of outer London which could potentially include some of the nicest places to cycle. Jenny particularly wanted to ensure that their voice gets heard, as the majority of discussion has been focused on the inner London concerns of the cycle hire, cycle superhighways and high profile junctions.
Jenny is continuing to take part in the big discussions on major junctions and cycle safety, but she wanted to go back to basics and look at the current state of cycling throughout London. Unless that is sorted, she feels that progress in much of London will continue to be very slow.

Re: CYCLING IN LONDON - A REPORT BY JENNY JONES AM
I have a lot of time for Jenny Jones, who I think talks a great deal of common sense for the benefit for us Londoners.
However, having read this report I'm very disappointed that in spite of claims that Jenny visited every London borough I can find quotes from only 16 - ie less than half of the 33 that exist. My borough isn't mentioned at all, nor our closest neighbour to the east ( to where I have to cycle on a regular basis). I could give you examples of most of the reported problems on just my five-mile commute to work.
My borough has the highest car ownership per person in London and I cycle to work in spite of, not because of the cycle facilities provided. I suspect that because politically this borough will never vote any way except "True Blue" that we have been ignored yet again.....

I rather think that the point was that most of these problems are found in all Boroughs. Having taken part in her visit to Richmond I am quite prepared to believe that she did visit all the boroughs. What she saw there was largely determined by what the local activists brought to her attention. (She told us that we were a lot better of than some - probably a fair evaluation, if owing little to the current administration.)

Not a great report tbh, a ragbag collection of random issues in disparate places.
Apparently:
'Cycling parking removed from useful locations at Enfield town centre (Enfield)'
while
'Cycling from West Croydon to High Street involves unnecessary diversions because of one way streets (Croydon)'
You could compile a longer list for a single borough.
Also:
'Cyclists in at least five boroughs have problems with signs including Harrow, Tower Hamlets, Richmond, Barking and Dagenham, and Redbridge.'
Ok?
