I've regretted taking a two-season sleeping bag to Norway for summer tours before, because it can get wet and miserable quite rapidly, especially in the mountainous areas where sleet and snow are to be anticipated in June-July. In other words, I'd take mitts and a wooly hat and a good bag rated down to zero for these routes (if you are going to sleeping out of doors).

I second mac's comments. I've cycled through snowdrifts in July on the Rallarweg while getting sunburnt. Nights were cold.

It looks like we'll be cycling down the Numedal valley in July, I'd appreciate any views on how easy it is to get to Geilo by train from Bergen with bikes, and from Larvik back to Geilo without dropping bikes off 24 hours in advance!

Cheers,

Jerry

The rail authorities seemed a little inconsistent with their 24 hour rule when I was there. On one occasion they would enforce it and another time it was never mentioned. I don't know if this was due to high traffic volumes or what, I just accepted their instructions.
