I will be cycling from St Helens to Elsmere for the CTC birthday rides this year and wondered if anybody could give a safe route without going down the A49 or crossing the bridge at Widnes please? Is there a decent sustrans route maybe too ?

Cheers barbelfisher.

If the A49 is the road I think it is then I rode this doing LEJoG a couple of years ago. It was a pleasant surprise in that there were good cycling facilities all the way with bikes on a separate cycle path.

Hi

Ellesmere is linked to Whitchurch via regional route 31(http://www.shropshire.gov.uk/cycling.ns ... h-2012.pdf) - a really nice ride along very quiet country lanes and Whitchurch is quite close to the Cheshire cycleway (http://www.cheshirecycleway.co.uk/map.html)and also links to route 45.
Hope this is helpful.
