pop up tent

A few years back I used a Decathlon pop up tent on the 7 day Trans Wales, and it was superb! After a hard day in saddle it was a joy to just take it out of bag, throw it in the air and crawl inside whilst others were still unrolling theirs. As it was a supported tour, and the luggage was being moved on for us, weight and unwieldiness wasn't a problem.

In June, my 23-year=old son and I are going on a week-long cycle tour in France. It's our first time doing this together, and his first cycle tour. We are mutually reluctant to share a tent! I've found out that a 1 person pop up is now available - http://www.decathlon.co.uk/2-seconds-i- ... more_infos. With a folded diameter of 55cm and weight 2.5kg, this seems a good candidate to strap to one side of a rack. So...anyone out there tried one?

Not tried one, I would be one of the unroller variety, but do please post of your findings on your return.

I've not tried it but a 55cm diameter disc would have to be mounted well back on a rack, assuming a normal touring rack, to avoid catching your heel as you pedal and it will probably stick beyond the back of the rear wheel. You could find it makes the bike difficult to handle in crosswinds and I think you might even struggle to attach it securely enough.
