St Helens to Oswestry

Sorry to ask again but I wondered if anyone can help with a mapped route from St Helens to Oswestry. I am considering both the A49 and going over Runcorn bridge but rather nervous with really busy roads, so wondered if anybody has done the route before and found a good route?
