St David's Head to Lowestoft.
St David's Head to Lowestoft.
A small group of us are planning to ride across the widest coast to coast in May. Having trouble finding a logical fairly direct route on quiet roads if poss.
Any suggestions please.

Try Bike Route Toaster it comes up with a fairly reasonable route Which at least gives you an idea. you can the n adjust to visit places and find accomodation I have not done it yet but I have planned it. Bike route toaster will skirt the Brecon beaons to Hereford onto Lemmington Spa , Moulton Cambridge then up through New Market, Thetford on toward Bungay and ending at Lowestoft avoiding major roads

Re: St David's Head to Lowestoft.
I am doing this in 4 days next month 13-16th April. Really looking forward to with all my accomodation booked! Beware accommodation has proved a bit of a problem for this trip. i did LEJOG last year and booking accomodation was easy as most of the towns I stayed in there was cheap accomodation availabel. My route is St Davids - Merthyr Tydfil - Oxford - Cambridge - Lowesoft. Averaging about 100 miles a day. Looking at the route profiles I have done it looks as if the first two days will be hilly and the second 2 rather flat. I will mainly be doing A roads but will deviate if possible. Has anyone followed a similar route before?

CTC did this as a tour quite a few years ago and had available a route-sheet and accommodation guide.
I'm sure if you do a search of the CTC website, you'd be able to download it.
Living in Pembrokeshire and having just spent a couple of days cycling in Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire, I can confirm the first bit is hilly and I think you'll certainly start off well below average.

Hi Richard B - Good luck for your ride. A group of us from King's Lynn CC are doing the route as you over 4 days. We are arriving in St Davids on Weds 18th April. So only 2 weeks to go
We are doing St Davids to Brecon, Brecon to Stratford, Stratford to Cambridge and then Cambridge to Lowestoft.
Conveniently i have secured accomodation at all locations. Apart from Cambridge they all look really nice.
Hi Richard if its possible i'd like to get in contact with you for advise. This is for our first 40 to 50 mile section. I'm trying to stay off busy A roads if possible. I've done a google map route which if i could PM you would be appreciated.
Alternatively what you doing on the 19th April
Thanks

Hi, we are staying in the Youth Hostels at all stop off points.
Good advice from your website, thanks.
Hopefully the weather may improve as it's only 9 days away now.

Hi, just logging a post to say what a fantastic welcome we received from Rich. We got to his after a complete drenching and he was taottally awesome. Without his help we would of been much worse. A VERY BIG THANK YOU from KLCC. Hope we can return the favour some day in Norfolk.

Re: St David's Head to Lowestoft.
Hi. I completed my ride lsat week! Had terrible conditions for the 4 days I was in the saddle so was not the most enjoyable of rides! I would rate this ride as a lot harder than Lejog as the Welsh hills do not seem to stop coming! My first day from St Davids to Merthyr was the most difficult! Anybody cycling in and around Merhyr must be mad as it is mega hilly! I would advise anyone doing this to try and avoid the black mountains as they are not nice. The rest of the 3 days of the ride were relatively easy and would of been more enjoyable had the weather been better! The only downside was the finish at Niss point which is on the back end of an industrial estate!
