CAPTCHA on mobile devices (or at least using Safari Mobile)

Hi
This may be a known issue but the capture multiple choice questions don't work on Safari Mobile because you can't pick up the words and move them to the answers box.
Thanks for not forcing me to try to decipher a meaningless word amidst a jumble of squiggles but would it be possible to answer the 'are you human?' question with a simple text box?
Thanks.

Hmm... the CAPTCHA is supposed to degrade nicely, but it sounds like it doesn't on Safari. We introduced it, to replace a simple text box with a random question to answer, and saw a dramatic reduction in spam registrations as soon as we did. So I'm afraid it's there to stay unless we can find something similarly tricky for spammers to bypass.
You should only need to complete the CAPTCHA once, so if you can do that on a non-mobile computer then you should be OK to use the Forum from then on with mobile machines.

Hi
That's interesting but puzzling, but maybe it had something to do with the questions you were asking rather than the method of data entry? I'm no programmer but I'd have thought that a question that required , in effect, three right answers ( as does yours) would also be hard for a spambot to defeat even using text entry.
Also won't requiring the use of a mouse create problems for users with disabilities? (OK possibly a hypothetical issue).
I was able to use my netbook - but wouldn't it be possible to have a link to a page for users of mobile devices?

I don't know how the site performs in the type of browser someone who can't use a mouse uses. I'm always happy to assist people who have problems registering.
You're the only person I'm aware of who has had problems registering because of the CAPTCHA (other than spammers!), which we introduced some time ago now.
We don't really have the time/funding to make big changes to the phpBB3 software the Forum uses, but if Forum registration via mobile devices becomes a big issue I expect CTC would fund any required changes. You never know, a future update to phpBB3 might include a community-generated fix for this issue for free.

Yes, if their disability and browser combination means they can't drag things on screen.

Yes, it would be possible. But it would take time and effort, especially if we wanted to test it in all combinations of mobile device and browser.
Enabling websites to work with touch screens is quite a new thing. The problem is that, on a touch-screen device, touch-and-drag is already used for panning the page around, whereas on a mouse-based computer you pan the page using scroll bars, so click-and-drag is available for dragging items on the page.
Ah, on my Android phone I can register if I disable JavaScript in the stock Android browser. You then get check-boxes instead of the drag thing. I think
